1.* three titles and two pictures

 Tasks: (1) study two pictures carefully to get some information about the two activities.

         (2) use one sentence to describe the relationship among three titles.

   The suggested answer: Hiking and rafting are two kinds of adventure travel.

2. Structure

T: How does the article begin?

S: Begin with a question.

Why do people travel? Many of today’s travelers are looking for

                      an unusual experience

                       / two activities

                       Hiking           rafting

The ways: 1.group discussion      2. the whole-class cooperation

3. teacher lead-in       4. teacher summary

1. Divide the students into three parts (each part has three groups)

2. Tasks-----part 1: para. 1    part 2: hiking   part 3: rafting

First: read the text by yourself

      Second: If you have any difficulty, you can discuss them with your partners.

      Third: If you can’t still solve them, you can ask the others or the teacher.

3. Reading

     Para 1:

     Q1: “to…, to…, or simply to…” in this structure, what’s the meaning of the simply?

     Guo Yuqi: simply means only

     Q2: in what situation?  Experience is a countable noun or an uncountable noun.

     Duan Lishi: look at this sentence---- …looking for an unusual experience … From the context, I know it means 经历 and before it the writer uses “an”. So I think 如果当经历讲时,它为可数名词;当经验讲时为不可数名词。

    Teacher leads in: look at this sentence---…to experience life

           Let students summarize how to use experience.

    Wang Qi: experience

           Vt. 经历,感受,体验 experience life

           NC.经历  an unusual experience

              U.经验  He has much experience of teaching

    Teacher asks how to use visit.

    Zhou Qi: visit some place

    T adds: pay a visit to some place(to is a prep.)

   Hiking

   1. The teacher gives some instructions:

(1)   instead/instead of 

(2)   equipment

(3)   four phrases

Group 9. Don’t know how to express 一套设备

Group 2: Liu Yue (very clever) like paper and information

As soon as she said, the students know we should say “a piece of equipment”.

2. Give them three minutes to remember the important phrases.

3. Make up sentences with these phrases.

Rafting

1.     Let some students who have previewed the text write some difficult or useful points on the blackboard.

(1)   a way 后定语的形式

(2)   be careful +

(3)   unless

2.     All the students must think them over and Part 3, give the explanation.

Wang Wenbin : a/ the way to do sth.

             a/the way of doing sth.

T: never say the way of sth.

S: be careful (in) doing sth.

           with sth.

           To do sth.

T summarizes an important pattern

  *It is adj. to do sth.

1.     Special adj.: easy/hard; difficult; fit; heavy/light; important; interesting etc.

2.     主动形式表示被动意义

The problem is difficult to work out. = It is difficult (for sb.) to work out.

Step 3. Summary (some students)

1.     Important words: experience; equipment; unless

2.     Important phrases: instead of; get close to; take exercise; watch out for; protect… from…; be careful to do sth./ with sth./(in) doing sth

3.     Difficult pattern: it is adj. to do sth.

Step 4. Remember the words and expressions in class
